The 19-year-old was pictured training among the first team this week and though his potential signing is understood be one based on initial involvement in the club’s under-23 side, Monk said he has done well in two days with the seniors so far.

Wednesday have this season continued with their policy of having a number of the club’s younger players training with the club every day.

Speaking to The Star ahead of the Owls’ Championship season opener at Cardiff on Saturday, Monk said on Adedoyin: “He’s another one that has been up with the first team for the past couple of days, he’s done very well.

“The under-23s are always looking at recruitment and strengthen their side of it as well, which helps them trying to blood them through when we think they’ve got potential.

“It’s not just about him, they’ve all got a chance to train with me and the first team. We’ve done that since I got here and we keep stepping that up.

“It’s good to have a look at see what they’ve got to offer and he’s done very well. He’s got potential and if we can bring him to the club, Steve Haslam the academy manager is the main point of call for that.

“But in terms of opinions from myself, it’s only been two days, you can’t tell everything in two days but what he’s done with us, you can see he has potential.

“We’ll see what happens with him personally but like all the youngsters, they get an opportunity to come and train in a first team environment.”

The Star understands that talks are underway to make Nigerian-born Adedoyin, prolific in Everton youth teams, a permanent Wednesday player.

“Alex [Hunt], Shawy [Liam Shaw] and Fisayo [Dele-Bashiru] coming in are that little step ahead in terms of the first team involvement including matches, but the others are consistently trying,” Monk said.

“First team is a different intensity and a different environment, it’s good for them to get a taste of that and see how that standard is set. That’s all part of it.”
