The Owls went out of the FA Cup in the fifth round thanks to Sergio Aguero’s early second half goals an although there were very few chances created by the home side at Hillsborough, there were positives to take, particularly at the bak were Dominic Iorfa came in for a lot of praise.

So, too, did Joe Wildsmoth, who made a rare and surprise appearane in goal.

@WednesdayRetro said: "Can’t fault the effort, work rate and defending..Iorfa destined for bigger things..Fernando shouldn’t have been taken off and bet there isn’t a Wednesdayite who would rather see Pelepussy start over Young Hunt..Give the kid a run"

@VitalWednesday added: "@DominicIorfa absolute class tonight . Gives me no doubt he will be playing @premierleague football next season. It makes me glad for him but sad for us knowing it won’t be with #swfc"

@CarlosShires was equally pleased: "Lads definitely put a shift in tonight. @DominicIorfa easily man of match for me, Outstanding performance against World class strikers."

@nebzy17 said: "I think @JoeWildsmith has staked a claim for another crack at regular first team football there. Solid stuff from Iorfa and Fox as well"

@gardiner1985 picked three stand-ot performers: "Cant fault the teams effort and commitment tonight, that's all you can ask as a fan. Didn't get turned over as many feared. Bannan, Iorfa and Wildsmith stand out 3 for me. Worrying just how nakered we were by full time though ahead of Saturday"

@stanners_david added: "Tonight was so frustrating, but glad to see we didn't give up or go 7-0 down....again. Iorfa played well, as did Forestieri and Murphy. Just needed to put more passes over the top or round their backline for Cruz to run on to. Anyway onwards and upwards (I hope)"

There was more priase for Iorfa from @liamward_6: "Iorfa is a absolute gem isn’t he easily Best Buy in our recent history ironic to say we threw millions on likes of rhodes abdi jones boyd yet a kid for 250k plucked from wolves bench is our most valuable asset and looks destined for greatness"

@OSimpson96 picked out the keeper for plaudits: "Wildsmith proving tonight why I've wanted him back in the sticks since hes come back from injury. Should be our number 1 without a shadow of doubt"

@Dango1867 said: "It wasn't a classic and yes they had a load of chances. But we had a gameplan stuck to it and only lost 1-0 against one of the best sides in the world. Need to start with Joe, big dom and Hunt next game"

Howeer, you can't please 'em all...

@OldMikeBasset said: "Monks Tactic tonight get 10 men to defend and bore City players , Mcfc Gk should have brought his chair or his phone"
