WEDNESDAY are to host a reunion of the team who beat United 4-0 in the Boxing Day Massacre of 1979.
It will take place at Hillsborough on the night before the February 26 derby.
Organiser John Green has already tracked down many of the Owls players who played in the game that was pivotal to the club’s promotion season under Jack Charlton. Green, who used to work for the Owls and arranged a similar reunion in 1999, said: “Jack will be there with as many players as we can get.
“Terry Curran, Andy McCulloch, Ian Mellor, Brian Hornsby, Mark Smith, Bob Bolder, Denis Leman and Charlie Williamson have confirmed. But I’m looking for Jeff King, Ray Blackhall and Jeff Johnson.
“Jeff King is the only one I wasn’t able to get hold of last time. When last known of, he was in Derby. Jeff Johnson was in Manchester. We think Ray Blackhall may still be in the police force in London. But I’d be grateful if anybody who knows where they are can get in touch.
“There will also be a few surprises at the event, and a meal, and we hope to show highlights of the 1979 game and the return at the Lane.”
Tickets will cost £49.95, and Green can be contacted on email@example.com.
