The 31-year-old former Chelsea man has joined the Owls on a free transfer subject to international clearance and is available for selection to play at Coventry City on Wednesday evening.

Hutchinson, who made more than 150 appearances during a six-year spell at Hillsborough, had been starring for Cypriot outfit Pafos FC before his contract was terminated by mutual consent before Christmas.

Now he rejoins Wednesday at a time when the club faces a desperate battle to stay in the Championship, with the Owls second-from-bottom on 19 points at the halfway point of the season.

He was largely a popular figure with Wednesdayites during his first spell at the club and over the weekend a poll carried out by The Star revealed that 67 per cent of respondents wanted Hutchinson back at S6.

So, with the ex-England youth international now back on the books what do Owls supporters make of his return?

Let’s take a look at what they’re saying on Twitter.

@Brentotter If you can’t see the sense in signing Hutchinson you need to give your head a wobble #swfc

@HatScarfShirt Delighted that #SamIsBack at #SWFC. He’s genuine, he loves the club, and he’s such a nice bloke. He really changed my life, and I’ll be eternally grateful and I’ll always cheer him on

@nelsonjd76 Always happy to see a good player come back...but normally for the half-time draw. Really in two minds on this one. If contract is good with major incentives for games played that’s good. Would like him to be a CB too not CM. Just hope the next boss likes him.

@AndrewC997 Needed him off the books for years. Why have we re-signed him?

@geebee1985 **** the haters. I’d have 11 Sammy Hutchinsons over all our squad! Perhaps he’ll stop them being gutless!

@RussSykes We definitely need him next to Bazza rather than Pelupessy any day of the week

@Gem_White1 Couldn’t be happier. Exactly the player we need in our battle of a season. Pro trainer, fighting spirit, not financially driven, passion, role model! Superb work

@SwfcFan12 Seriously, I think some fans are mental. Moaning over signing Hutchinson. He is better than Pelupessy, It gives extra cover until Luongo is ready. It's a short term deal and an extra body to the squad which badly need's it. Sign someone moan, don't sign anyone moan.

@AnalyticsOwls Well Hutchinson is back, hopefully makes a difference. My concerns weren't about hating him as an individual but rather he carries past liabilities (fitness, suspensions and disagreements with managers) and the move is short term recruitment that unbalances the #SWFC squad further.

@mja_owl Looks like I shall be screaming at the tablet on Wednesday night again. “Don’t foul him Sammy”. Just like old times

@WednesdayRetro Good addition to the squad for our relegation battle
