Generous Sheffield Wednesday fans rally behind brilliant ticket initiative - big target reached

The feelgood factor is back at Hillsborough

Owls fans have rallied behind a brilliant ticket fundraising campaign, helping to reach an important target within hours.

The Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust launched a scheme where fans can donate the cost of a season ticket to a fellow supporter who might not be as fortunate financially. There is also an option for people to donate smaller amounts towards individual match tickets. The idea came about after feedback from the fanbase.

On Wednesday, the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust announced that a mystery ‘friend’, who wanted to remain anonymous, had offered to donate £35,000 to the cause if fans could raise the same amount between themselves. Within hours, that number was met, meaning the trust will have at least £70,000 for the initiative.

“You did it, Wednesday fans,” the trust said. “Thank you. Every single person who donated, shared, liked, reposted, or spread the word played a part. But this isn’t the finish line. Every extra pound raised means more tickets, more opportunities, more memories, and more Wednesdayites getting the chance to be part of our club. Let’s see how far we can take this.”

The backing of the fans is an example of how the feelgood factor has returned to the club since it came out of administration following the takeover by US consortium Arise Capital Partners. More than 17,000 season tickets have been sold within a few weeks of going on sale as the club aims to break the 21,000 record and perhaps even push towards 23,000.
