The Owls are on a run of one win in 16 matches at Hillsborough, having failed to win in their last 10 home matches, and may well see this weekend’s clash as the ideal opportunity to record that long overdue win at S6 as the Hatters arrive off the back of two straight defeats.

Asked about his side’s home record, Monk intimated he did not think it was fair to pool this campaign in with the last, pointing out the vast changes in personnel.

“The past is the past,” he said. “I’m looking at it as this season, we can’t do anything about last season.

“We’ve spoken about it a number of times, this is a different group, it’s a new group. We’re moving in a different way.

“Let’s see. Let’s see what the home record is come the end of the season.”

This campaign has seen Wednesday draw with promotion favourites Watford before suffering a last-gasp equaliser against QPR before this week’s narrow defeat to title-fancied Brentford.

Monk said: “We’ve played two of the stronger, if not the strongest sides in the division and then there was QPR, which was one we were unlucky in. So in terms of where we’re heading, let’s judge all that at the end of the season.”

Tomorrow’s match signals the start of another big week for the Owls, with three matches against so-called relegation candidates arriving with trips to Rotherham and Wycombe coming thick and fast after Luton.
