Garry Monk provides injury update on Sheffield Wednesday duo Massimo Luongo and Steven Fletcher

Promotion-chasing Sheffield Wednesday are hopeful Massimo Luongo and Steven Fletcher will be fit to face Hull City on New Year's Day.

Owls midfielder Massimo Luongo missed the loss to Cardiff

The influential pair were not involved in Sunday's frustrating defeat to Cardiff City.

Midfielder Luongo missed out because of a minor head injury sustained in the Boxing Day clash at Stoke City while Fletcher has not featured since December 14 due to illness.

On 12-goal top-scorer Fletcher, boss Garry Monk said: "He has been back on the training pitch in the last two days.

"He has lost a lot of weight with the illness and was not quite right. Hopefully the last two days have been good for him and we will have a good look for the Hull game."

As for Luongo, Monk added: "He felt a bit groggy within himself after the (Stoke) game but he is back out on the training pitch so hopefully he will be back in contention for the Hull game."
