"As far as I am aware and speaking to the physios every day, he is on schedule.

"I can't put a date on it because we don't know but he is still doing his rehab in the gym. He is working every day with the physios and doing well.

“He has not had any setbacks so far so hopefully he can progress quickly.”

The Scotland international, out of contract at the end of the season, suffered the knock in the Owls’ memorable FA Cup triumph at Brighton and Hove Albion at the start of January.

Fletcher has flourished during the 2019/20 season, hitting an impressive 12 goals in 24 appearances.

Sam Winnall has spearheaded the Owls’ attack since Fletcher’s injury setback. Winnall ended his lean spell in front of goal by bagging the Owls’ second in their battling FA Cup victory at Queens Park Rangers last Friday.

Wednesday will host holders Manchester City in the fifth round of the competition in March.
