It is well-documented that Garry Monk hopes to bolster his attacking options before the transfer window closes on January 31.

His Wednesday team fired a blank in their frustrating New Year’s Day defeat to Hull City, despite the welcome return to action of 12-goal top-scorer Steven Fletcher.

On the search for new faces, Monk said: “At this moment in time in January, we know the market we’re looking in is loans but there’s nothing concrete.

“You have to see, assess and evolve.

“Maybe we haven’t evolved enough over recent seasons.

“It’s fine; it’s my job to get the best out of this group and they have shown what they’re capable of.

“They’ve shown they can sustain it for periods.”

The Owls manager is demanding a strong reaction from his players following a three-match losing streak.

“Now what they need to do is respond,” said Monk.

“Now I’ve seen a period where we have had a few defeats in a row.

“Now we’ll see the mentality of who is angry and who is not and who can do what, who means it.

“Words are cheap and that’s what I expect to see.”

It is highly likely Monk will field a much-changed side when they go to Premier League Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup this weekend.

The likes of Joe Wildsmith, Moses Odubajo, David Bates, Kieran Lee, Joey Pelupessy and Massimo Luongo could be given run-outs.

Monk said: “It’s all about a collective in terms of what we have to do.

“We know what they (the players) are capable of; they know what they’re capable of.

“When you have the setbacks and disappointments, that should be fuel to the fire in terms of determination.

“That’s what I expect and that’s the type of mentality you have to create and build at a football club.

“We know what they can do, they know what they can do.

“We all do that together.

“We all lose together, we all win together as a collective.

“They need to show a resolve, a response and a resilience to push towards what they’re capable of and doing it consistently.”
