Now fans want to raise £2,000 to pay for a commemorative piece of wall art to be displayed at the club’s home ground.

Mel Pemberton, who set up a Just Giving page for the fundraising drive, said the request has been agreed by Sheffield Wednesday.

Andrew White, who is also involved in the project, told BBC Sheffield the artwork should be displayed somewhere in the stadium where everyone can see it.

Fans will also be asked for their input on what image, or images, should be on the wall art.

Andrew said: “If there’s one person who deserves it, it’s Jack Charlton.

"It’s not just Sheffield Wednesday supporters who remember him. Other people have got the World Cup.”

Two pieces of wall art will be made, if enough money can be raised, Andrew said.

One will be located at Hillsborough Stadium, while the other will be in Sheffield city centre.

You can donate to the fundraiser on the Just Giving website.
