Tony Pulis has been clear that he wants to change up the squad next month when given the opportunity, and that will mean ins and outs for the Owls as the manager looks to build a squad that can secure Championship safety.

Speaking to the media earlier this month, Pulis said, “I’ve sat down with Downsy (David Downes) and the recruitment people and gone through what I think we would need. And that’s with players leaving as well.

And then when asked for clarification whether that meant both incoming and outgoing changes, he replied, “I think there has to be, yeah.”

With that in mind, we took a look at a few Owls who could possibly use a loan move when the January transfer window opens up:

Alex Hunt

The talented youngster looked to be on the up and up under Garry Monk, however has been used sparingly by Pulis since his arrival at Hillsborough.

At 20, Hunt is the sort of age where he needs to be playing more regularly, and a step down to League One could potentially do him the world of good in terms of his progression as a footballer.

His contract will expire at the end of the season, but The Star understands that the club do have an option to extend.

Matt Penney

When he burst back onto the scene in the Carabao Cup game against Walsall, many thought that this would be the season that Penney finally established himself as a regular player for Wednesday.

But it’s now been over three months since the wide player last played senior football, and it doesn’t appear that he’s in Pulis’ immediate plans.

He’s no stranger to a loan deal having spent last season in Germany with St. Pauli, and more time away could do him good as the 22-year-old hunts for more minutes elsewhere.

His contract is up at the end of the season.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru

The former Manchester City youngster came to Hillsborough with plenty of promise, and showed in his first few appearances that there was lots of potential to become a good player for the Owls.

But Dele-Bashiru hasn’t played for Wednesday since October, and not at all under Pulis, and could maybe do with a few months of regular senior football under his belt.

FDB penned a three-year deal at Hillsborough that’ll take him through to 2023, leaving the 19-year-old with plenty of time to develop.

Osaze Urhoghide

‘Big O’ is another talented youngster at Wednesday who would benefit with getting more minutes under his belt. He announced himself to Wednesdayites last year with some promising displays, but is still waiting for his first appearance in 2020/21.

Urhoghide, who will see his deal expire at the end of the current campaign, is highly-regarded at the club and there was talk previously of a possible extension.

A new deal and loan away could be the best option for the 20-year-old at this point in his career if he’s not going to get many games under Pulis.
