Former Wednesday striker releases heartbreaking statement confirming his two-year-old daughter's tragic death

Former Sheffield Wednesday striker, Benik Afobe, has issued a heartbreaking statement about the death of his two-year-old daughter who passed away suddenly after 'developing a severe infection’.

Benik Afobe's daughter Amora was rushed to hospital after unexpectedly developing a severe infection.

Despite the best efforts of medics, the tot passed away on Friday evening.

Amora's death was confirmed in a heartbreaking statement released by the family today.

They said: “It is with an extremely heavy heart that the Afobe family have today confirmed the devastating news that their first child, their beloved daughter Amora, 2, passed away late on Friday evening.

“Amore was taken to hospital for treatment after unexpectedly developing a severe infection.

“Unfortunately she then suffered a number of serious complications and despite doctors doing absolutely everything that they could, Amora passed away peacefully with the love of her family by her side.

“The entire family have been left totally devastated and heartbroken, and would like to ask that their privacy is respected at this incredibly difficult time. Thank you.”

Benik Afobe had a spell at Wednesday on loan from Arsenal in early 2014.

He made 13 appearances, scoring two goals.

Since then, he has gone on to play for MK Dons, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bournemouth, Stoke City and is currently on loan at Bristol City.

Many of his former clubs have passed on their condolences on Twitter.

“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Sheffield Wednesday are with Benik Afobe following this morning's tragic news,” a spokesman said.

A Wolves spokesman said: "The Wolves family are with you, Benik.”
