And one one-time Owls striker believes there is an aspect that the boss would particularly like to change once this campaign eventually draws to a conclusion.

Monk has always had his own backroom team around him in his various jobs since stepping up to become a manager but was unable to do that when taking up the role at Hillsborough.

Dean Windass, who has known Monk for a long time, says the Wednesday boss will want to change that as soon as practically possible.

"I am sure that he believes in his own ability,” said Windass, who had a very brief loan spell at Wednesday in the early 2000s. “Again, not just because of what's gone on at Sheffield Wednesday, with players and staff - he might want to bring his own staff in as well. Managers like to bring people in that they can trust. He'll want to mix it up and do it the way he wants to do it.

"He's very ambitious and like every manager wants to manage in the Premier League and I'm sure Garry Monk wants to do that."

Windass’ son Josh is now on loan at the Owls and he feels there culd be a major upheaval within the squad in the summer.

The former Hull City and Bradford forward told Alan Biggs’ Sheffield Live programme: “I'm not aware of any contracts that are up or how many players (Monk) has got available to bring in next year. I'm sure he'll want to bring his own men in next year, I am sure he will want to get rid of players, that's just the nature of football.

"If he wants to sign our Josh on a permanent, he'll have to sort out a deal with Wigan, the same with Connor Wickham at Crystal Palace; will he want to bring him in full-time?

"I'm sure next year when the season finishes, Gary will be glad to get his own stamp, bring his own players in, because they are a massive football club.”
