His 2023/24 got off to a rough start with Sheffield Wednesday, but both the Owls and Xisco Munoz ended up with a happy ending.

The Spaniard endured a torrid time at Hillsborough after coming in to replace Darren Moore last summer, and lasted until just October before a decision was made to part ways and appoint Danny Röhl – who went on to secure safety with the club after pulling off the great escape in South Yorkshire.

For Xisco he didn’t waste too much time before getting back into management following his disappointment at S6, joining Slovakian outfit, DAC Dunajská Streda, in November. They’ve lost just two league games since then, and won four on the bounce to finish second and secure qualification into next season’s UEFA Europa Conference League.

"I want to thank all my players,” he said after a 3-2 win on the last day. “They gave 100% to the match and the whole season, and the result came. They coped with the demanding pressure and worked in an exemplary manner.

“I also want to thank the fans, they are our twelfth player on the pitch, and of course I want to thank the club that created great conditions for us. Today is a wonderful day for us, but we are already thinking ahead.”

It was confirmed recently that Xisco had signed a two-year contract until the end of the 2025/26 - as had his assistant, and another former Owls staff member, Roberto Cuesta Roman.
