Former Sheffield Wednesday and Real Madrid flop Royston Drenthe announces surprising new career twist

The Sheffield Wednesday loan spell of former Dutch international Royston Drenthe came and went with something of a whimper.

A former cohort at Feyenoord, Real Madrid and Everton, the left-sided wing-back arrived on loan from Reading and played 15 times before leaving Hillsborough to join Turkish top tier outfit Kayseri Erciyesspor in January 2015. He scored one Owls goal in a 1-1 draw at Charlton.

Drenthe’s career since has made for interesting viewing.

Released from his contract in Turkey after a few months he spent one season playing in the UAE for Baniyas Club before announcing his retirement from football in February 2017 aged 29.. to become a rapper known as ‘Roya2Faces’.

“I have ended my career,” he said at the time. “I am no longer a footballer. I am fed up with all the stuff in the football world.”

In July 2018 he signed for Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam and now appears to play on a casual basis for third-tier Kozakken Boys.

But now the fiery Dutchman has launched yet another reincarnation of his talents.. as an actor.

Sharing a trailer for new crime drama Mocro Maffia on social media, Drenthe posted: “The time has com .....After a long silence, may I FINALLY announce that I can be seen in the MOCRO MAFIA series!
