BEN Marshall has been stunned by the departure of Gary Megson.
The former Owls star winger said on Twitter: “Can’t believe Sheffield have sacked Megson.”
Marshall was a key player at Hillsborough while on loan from Stoke and before he was signed by Leicester in January.
Ex-Wednesday captain Darren Purse is another who has used social media to comment on the Megson affair. He said: “You win a Sheffield derby moving up to third in the league and get sacked three days later. I don’t understand football sometimes.
“Megson would have got Wednesday promoted this year. He loved the club and knows how to win promotion.”
But David Coupe, who was chairman of Wednesday Shareholders Association before it disbanded following Milan Mandaric’s takeover, said: “We haven’t entertained and we haven’t beaten anyone convincingly.
“After Sunday’s game I was fully behind Megson for beating United. But I think it’s the last couple of months that have cost him. Maybe it didn’t look good for him when Lee Clark got the sack.
“I don’t think he (Megson) did any better than we would have expected any decent manager to do. It’s Milan Mandaric’s club. He has asked people to trust him and that’s all we can do.”
