Former Bristol City boss Lee Johnson keeping an eye on possible Sheffield Wednesday interest

Wednesday sacked Garry Monk and members of his backroom staff on Monday evening after they failed to turn around a run of jut two wins in their last 18 home matches. Monk, who faced a number of hurdles in a 14-month reign, left with a win ratio of just 32.75 per cent.
Names such as former Wigan boss Paul Cook and Tony Pulis, who is understood to have spoken with the club last year ahead of Monk’s appointment, have been touted as early favourites for the job.

Hide AdFormer Barnsley boss Johnson, 39, who left the Robins at the end of last season after more than four years in the role, is currently undertaking some downtime after over two decades in the game but is understood to be keeping a close eye on possible opportunities but is keen not to rush into a new role.
Johnson has turned down job offers from clubs in Europe in the past few months. It is believed he has been very tentatively ‘sounded out’ for potential interest the Owls job, as he has been on previous occasions, though an official Wednesday approach has not materialised so far.
Speaking to The Times in August, he said: “My heart is in coaching in the Championship or as high as I can in England.
“The Championship is the best league in the world: varied styles, varied budgets, varied tactics but such a big prize at the end of it.
