With three home matches in a week starting against Charlton tonight, Sheffield Wednesday are fighting hard to reverse a run of form that has seen them fail to score a goal at Hillsborough in 2020.

And despite an acknowledgement that confidence remains an issue in the ranks despite a more encouraging draw at Birmingham last weekend, the Owls are ready to deliver the home result they hope could spark an up-tick in fortunes in an ailing season.

Most recently, horror show defeats to Blackburn (5-0) and Reading (3-0) were splintered by a dour 0-0 draw with Millwall.

Wednesday midfielder Joey Pelupessy spoke about the Owls’ hunger to improve performances at home and said: “It's hard. At home you do not want to lose, for our fans. When you see them support, it's amazing how they support us.

“We want to give them those kind of games, wins and good results. Of course we don't do that on purpose but we try to give that to them.

“It’s hard to lose 5-0 and 3-0 at home. You cannot accept that as a group and it is hard to handle but we are a group that is working hard every day. That's the only way to handle it.”

And manager Garry Monk, who praised Wednesday supporters for sticking by their team during that 3-0 Royals reverse, said that a win, in whatever form, is imperative.

“The ultimate belief and confidence-booster is results,” he said.

“If we can get that win, however that comes or get that result that stops the cycle we are in then that's how you will start to see it.

“My job is to give them as much encouragement as much belief as possible and clarity in their roles to go onto that pitch and deliver.

“Of course it has to come from within, that self-belief and strength of character has to come from within. Maybe because confidence has been a little bit low that hasn't quite been there but there's only one thing you can do.

“There's only ourselves that can change that.”
