The Owls have several players leaving t next month when various contracts and loans expire, and Darren Moore has taken up the task of rebuilding a side that can challenge for promotion back into the Championship.

It won’t be an easy task for Moore amid talk of unpaid wages and a transfer embargo, but it’s understood there is plenty of work going on behind the scenes in order to get the ball rolling.

The Star understands that there are five key positions that have been made the number one priority for the Owls as they go about their recruitment plans, with Moore no doubt playing his part in trying to cherry-pick the best players for the cause.

It’s understood that the five positions Wednesday are looking to fill most urgently are left back, the left side of central defence and central midfield, as well as trying to pick up at least one player for out wide and up front as they go in search of more goals in 2021/22 than they managed in the disappointing season that’s just gone.

The understanding is that Wednesday will return for the start of preseason in the last week of June as Moore looks to put them through their paces ahead of a tough campaign ahead, with a trip to Wales looking to be on the cards where they could potentially face Scottish giants, Celtic.

Moore will be hoping to have at least a few new faces through the door by then, but for now that’s still a work in progress.
