Wednesday have lost only one of their nine previous fixtures to the Bluebirds – though that was last time out in a 2-1 Hillsborough defeat on December 29.
But what about the other standout fixtures? What’s best to mark the calendar out for as the new-look Owls set sail on another Championship season?
Wednesday will take on recently relegated Watford in their first match at Hillsborough on Saturday September 19.
It will be the first clash between the two sides since May 2015 when a customary last-minute Atdhe Nuhiu equaliser earned them a 1-1 draw at Vicarage Road.
Their last Hillsborough clash was a 3-0 October 2014 defeat.
Boxing Day?
Well nobody yet knows when fans will be allowed back into stadiums but if it’s by Boxing Day, Wednesdayites will be making a trip across the Pennines to Blackburn’s Ewood Park.
It will be their fifth-consecutive Boxing Day away day when they will want to rid themselves of memories of last season, where two late goals saw them succumb to a disappointing 2-1 defeat.
They’ll play newly-promoted Rotherham away on Wednesday October 28 and at home on Wednesday March 3 and then Huddersfield away on Tuesday December 8 and at home on Wednesday March 17.
Barnsley will come to Hillsborough on December 12, with the trip to Oakwell arriving on March 20.
