FAN SURVEY: Garry Monk, no fans and Dejphon Chansiri - where Sheffield Wednesday fans lay the blame of relegation

Some three weeks on, with the dust is still settling on the reality of relegation, a Star survey of over 1,000 Sheffield Wednesday supporters has uncovered some interesting feeling towards the season as a whole.
Wednesday fans were of course locked out of matches throughout the season as football continued to play its part in the fight against the coronavirus.

Hide AdOpinion is split on whether that helped or hindered the Owls’ chances, with 56.8% of fans suggesting it had a ‘negative’ or ‘really negative’ affect on the team. Only 7.5% of respondents felt it was ‘definitely a good thing’ Wednesday fans weren’t present at matches.
Just over one in five fans (21.2%) believe Wednesday would still be a Championship club if Garry Monk hadn’t been sacked back in November.
Asked who is most to blame for relegation, 76.3% said they felt it was owner Dejphon Chansiri, 14.4% answered ‘the managers’ and 36.5% answered ‘the players’. Included among the other responses were the EFL, the club’s recruitment team, the financial impact caused by the pandemic and those advising Chansiri.
And it seems relegation in itself didn’t come as too much of a surprise to supporters.

Hide AdResponses suggest, albeit in hindsight, 88.5% were not surprised Wednesday were relegated, with 17.7% indicating they felt relegation was ‘always nailed on’. Only 1.3% of fans said they were ‘really shocked’ by the drop.
