Promotion-chasing Sheffield Wednesday are set to make an ambitious double bid to sign Derby County duo Jeff Hendrick and Tom Ince, The Star can reveal.

I understand the Championship club want to add midfielder Hendrick and forward Ince to their squad as they bid to increase their attacking options before the transfer window closes on August 31.

My sources say the Owls have been tracking Hendrick and Ince for some time and it is not connected to the £7m offer the Rams tabled for striker Fernando Forestieri earlier this week.

Both Hendrick and Ince have featured in Derby’s opening two fixtures this season.

Hendrick enhanced his reputation by producing a string of impressive performances for the the Republic of Ireland in the European Championship’s last summer.

The 24-year-old, who has come through the ranks at Derby, making over 200 appearances, has attracted the interest of Premier League newcomers Burnley. In recent months, Derby have rejected bids of £3m, £5.5m and one in excess of £7m from the Clarets for Hendrick. Sunderland have also reportedly been monitoring his situation.

Hendrick, who scored two goals as Derby finished fifth last season, has two years left to run on his contract.

Versatile attacker Ince cost the Rams around £4.75m in July 2015. The skilful forward penned a four-year contract, having starred on loan with Derby the season before, hitting 11 goals in 18 starts.

Ince, the son of England great Paul, started his career at Liverpool, making only one substitute appearance for the Merseysiders. Since leaving Anfield, Ince has represented Notts County (loan), Blackpool, Crystal Palace (loan), Hull and Nottingham Forest (loan).

The former England Under-21 international, who can be deployed on either flank or up front, has notched 61 goals in 215 outings.
