The Owls struggled to really get going against a strong Saints side in the opening 45, but made battle of it in the second as Lee Gregory cancelled out Adam Armstrong’s opener. Unfortunately, though, Che Adams came on to secure three points for the visitors.
Wednesday hadn’t been beaten in a league game at home since back in September last year, but it was always going to be difficult against a team that is still full of players that were plying their trade in the Premier League last season.
Here’s how we rated Wednesday’s players as their Championship campaign got underway.

9. Tyreeq Bakinson - 6
Had to slot into the defensive line on occasion, and worked hard for the ball in various positions. Being ultra critical he could maybe have done more to try and stop the second goal. Photo: Steve Ellis

10. Josh Windass - 6
Put in a real shift down the left side, an unfavoured position, in difficult circumstances and when he was often starved for real service. Photo: Matt McNulty/Getty Images

11. Lee Gregory - 7
Spent so much of the first half isolated up top, but still kept chasing everything down tirelessly. Took his goal brilliantly to get off the mark for the season. Photo: Catherine Ivill

12. Anthony Musaba - 6
Came on and showed a real burst of exciting pace a couple of times that got Wednesday fans off their seats. They’ll be wanting to see a lot more of that this season. | SWFC
