Ex-Sheffield Wednesday defender becomes free agent, Brentford swoop for ex-Chelsea starlet

Sheffield Wednesday will head into their weekend clash against Millwall full of confidence, following their dramatic midweek win against Bournemouth, which saw forgotten man Jordan Rhodes seal his side a 2-1 win with a 90th minute header.

Speaking after the victory, caretaker manager Neil Thompson told the Star: "It’s not happened for him over whatever length of time, and it’s always frustrating when you’re a player because you want to go and play - and he’s not done that.

“But he’s a fantastic professional, does everything right, prepares himself properly every week and he’s got his just rewards tonight. I’m delighted for him.”

The Owls' latest opponents are in a bit of a rut, having failed to win in their last four matches, and drawing their last three on the trot.

When the two sides last met, back in November, the two sides played out a goalless draw at Hillsborough, which saw the Wednesday move off the foot of the table with a precious point.

Meanwhile, the club continue their search for a new permanent manager, with the wait for Tony Pulis' successor now stretching to over a month. A host of high-profile candidates have been linked with the job, but given Thompson's impressive spell in charge, the club could opt to give him the job on a full-time basis.
