A former Sheffield Wednesday physio will team up with one of his old Owls charges after making the short move to a new club.

This week saw Wednesday record signing Jordan Rhodes make a permanent switch to League One promotion hopefuls Blackpool having enjoyed a successful loan stint with the club last season. He joins from Huddersfield Town, who he signed for after his S6 release in 2021.

The former Scotland striker was full of thanks to Tangerines sporting director David Downes for his role in facilitating the move when speaking as part of his unveiling, with Downes himself having made the move from head of recruitment at Hillsborough last summer. Rhodes joins another ex-Owls figure, Richard O’Donnell, at Bloomfield Road after his deal was extended.

Blackpool have since announced the addition of new head physiotherapist Liam McGarry, who joins from near-neighbours Fleetwood Town. McGarry is a former head physio at Wednesday and is highly regarded having also worked at Hull City and Blackburn Rovers.

“I’m over the moon to be joining the football club,” McGarry told club media. “Having worked in professional football for over 20 years, I hope to bring knowledge and leadership to the medical and sports science department, whilst also help and advise the current staff in their respective roles.

“The lads are away at the minute so it gives me time to bed in quickly ahead of pre-season starting in a few weeks time. I can’t wait to get started.”
