It was reported on Tuesday evening that several Wednesday players had not received all the money owed to them, including some bonus fees.

The news follows a similar story in November that saw players paid late and while Monk admitted he did not know the exact circumstances around the short payment, he described a camp happy with the explanation offered to them by the club, who have been in communication with the players and staff throughout.

Speaking after the defeat, Monk said: “I don’t know the exact ins and outs of it, all I know is that the information from the club is that everything is in hand. Every club is going through different situations with all of this but we’ve never really had a problem here.

“We had a slight one earlier in the season but again the club have explained, there’s no worries with it, it’ll be there, it just needs a little bit more time to happen.

“Everyone in the camp is very, very happy with the explanation, it’s no issue for us. We don’t want to use that as an excuse, it’s not a distraction.”

“We had a conversation and I spoke to the players, they spoke to the club and we spoke all together,” he said.

“It will be resolved and we’re all happy with that situation, everyone that is here.”
