The Star last night confirmed reports that an offer in the region of £30m had been made, but that it is not even close to being an amount that Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri would consider selling for.

The bid had come from Erik Alonso, until recently an advisor to the chairman, with the apparent backing of an Indonesian consortium.

Star sources suggest that it would take an offer of substantially more than £30m for the chairman to even consider selling up.

It remains to be seen whether Alonso – the owner of WBD Sports – will look to come back with another improved offer, but there is no evidence that Chansiri would consider a sale at all at this point in time.

It is also understood that Alonso has been showing interest in a takeover at Derby County.

When the news broke last night, the agent made an appearance on social media, albeit briefly.

"I do not know who has leaked the news to the press, I just want to say one thing, all offers are accompanied by a proof of funds. Goodnight," he posted on Twitter before shutting down the account immediately after.

As of Tuesday morning, the account had been re-activated but the message from the previous night had been deleted.

The last post was dated January 29, in which he hit back at comments made by Chansiri over the Spaniard’s involvement at Wednesday.

In that post, he wrote: “I am aware of the interview which the owner of Sheffield Wednesday gave today. I do not want to at this stage turn this into a saga so for now will not be formally responding. When the time is right I will give my side of the story with proof.”

The website for Alonso’s company, WBD Sports, which previously reeled off a list of big name footballers and some of the biggest clubs in the world as apparent clients, is now ‘under construction’ and inaccessible.

Chansiri had previously claimed that he was open to offers to sell Wednesday, but that is likely to be dependent on a bid that would recoup his vast spending in the six years since taking over.
