Wednesday face Blackburn Rovers tomorrow afternoon as they aim to secure back-to-back wins for the first time in a year, and build on their 1-0 victory over Coventry City a week ago.
It’ll be the fifth time that SWFC have faced Rovers on Boxing Day, winning 2-0 in 1949, then drawing 2-2, 0-0 and 0-0 in 1955, 1997 and 2013 respectively.
5. Everton 1-4 Wednesday - 1994
Another festive away trip to Goodison Park as the Wednesday thumped Everton 4-1 on their home turf - largely thanks to a debut double from new Owls signing, Guy Whittingham. They went 1-0 down, too. Photo: Sheffield Newspapers
6. Wednesday 3-0 Birmingham - 2015
One of SWFC's biggest Boxing Day wins in recent memory was the 3-0 demolition of Birmingham City at Hillsborough on their way to reaching the Play-Off final a few months later... Fernando Forestieri got a brace - scoring either side of Kieran Lee - to earn the Owls' a deserved victory. Photo: Steve Ellis
7. Forest 0-3 Wednesday - 2017
Fast forward a couple of years, and Wednesday hit another triple in the festive period, putting Nottingham Forest to the sword at the City Ground. Adam Reach scored an absolute belter to get the scoring underway, with Jordan Rhodes and Lucas Joao getting the other two. Photo: Steve Ellis
8. Wednesday 1-0 Middlesbrough - 1999
Peter Atherton scored the winner for the Owls in their final Premier League Boxing Day back in 1999, but the upturn in fortunes that followed was not enough to fix the damage that was done in the first half of the season. Over 28,000 were there to watch it happen. Photo: Steve Ellis
