DONCASTER RACECOURSE: Owls folk flock to big day

Have your say

FATHER’S Day was a great occasion last week, as thousands of families flocked to Town Moor to enjoy a fantastic line-up of entertainment.

Last Sunday was our Sheffield Wednesday Family Fun Day meeting, which featured a packed programme of on and off the track action.

The raceday attracted more than 11,000 people celebrating Father’s Day with an afternoon of exhilarating horse racing and fun-filled activities for visitors of all ages, including appearances from children’s favourites, Peppa Pig and George.

The volume of people attending the event really was unprecedented – a record crowd for a raceday of this kind, so the whole team at Doncaster worked flat-out to make sure that everyone had the best day possible. We knew the event would be popular, but we had no idea that so many people would turn up on the day, so it really was a busy afternoon!

We had some close-run races, with the opening line-up claimed by Handles For Forks at 9/1. The 3:35pm was another great race, won by outsider Rasaman 12/1, pipping 20/1 shot Mass Rally to the post – a good day for anyone who took a punt on an outsider.

What is a safe bet is that we’re in for another hugely popular meeting, with two days of racing kicking off next Friday, June 29. The Saturday, June 30 meeting is set to be a real stand-out day in the Town Moor calendar, as we welcome Madness to the racecourse for the second time, having had them here in 2008.

The Construction Index live music raceday, an evening of racing followed by a live performance by the iconic cockney band, is set to be a sell-out with less than 500 tickets left.

We’re expecting that advance bookings will see the last remaining tickets sell out over the next few days, so anyone who wants to go will need to book up quickly to avoid missing out – it’s very unlikely that any tickets will be available on the night itself.
