Dom Howson: Expect Kadeem Harris to bounce back strongly from losing his place in the Sheffield Wednesday side

Few would argue that Kadeem Harris has been a big hit since moving to Hillsborough.

His searing pace and endless endeavour has undoubtedly added an extra dimension to Wednesday on the flanks.

According to the Between the Lines Twitter page, Harris has created 28 goal-scoring opportunities following a ball carry in the Championship this season - seven more than any other player.

Harris has largely been deployed on the left wing and weighed in with three goals and three assists. He never takes the easy option and always looks to make things happen in the final third.

Harris is a hard-working, unselfish individual.

“If the team is not winning, I am not overly happy," he told me. "Wins are more important than my individual success."

Harris is exciting, direct and puts bums on seats.

Like with Julian Börner, Steve Bruce and the club's recruitment team deserve plenty of plaudits for identifying and signing Harris on a free transfer.

Harris left Cardiff City last summer in search of regular first-team football. He was hungry to get his career back on track.

He has done just that.

And Harris's flair, creativity and eye for goal has troubled a whole host of full-backs at this level. The end product has not always been there, but Harris attracts the attention of defenders to help create space for his team-mates. Opponents have often doubled up on Harris to counter his threat.

Harris was an ever-present in the league going into last weekend's much-anticipated Yorkshire derby with Leeds United. Although he was a late second half substitute in the cup tie at Brighton and Hove Albion, it was thought Harris would be restored to the starting XI at Elland Road.

But manager Garry Monk left Harris out of the team again, electing to field Jacob Murphy and Adam Reach in the wide areas. The duo fully vindicated Monk's selection, with Newcastle United loanee Murphy bagging the opener before Reach teed up Atdhe Nuhiu for the second.

Murphy and Reach look set to keep their places when the Owls host Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, meaning Harris may have to make do with a spot on the bench.

Having gone off the boil by his high standards over the Christmas period, Harris probably needed a rest. Perhaps a tough, demanding workload in the first half of the season had taken its toll.

But expect Harris to come back strong from this spell out of the side. He is too good a player not to.
