'Does this mean we're playing two strikers?' - Sheffield Wednesday fans' verdict on Garry Monk's team selection

The big talking point is central defender Joost van Aken making his first Sheffield Wednesday appearance in 770 days and is expected to line-up on the left side of a defensive back three.

Elsewhere, Cameron Dawson has retained his place in goal after keeping a clean sheet in last weekend’s win over the Saddlers, Matt Penney makes his first Championship start for almost two years while up front Jordan Rhodes is named alongside Josh Windass ahead of new signing Elias Kachunga.

Here’s what Wednesday fans on Twitter have had to say about today’s team selection.

@boothie_swfc Hope Tom Lees can put in a strong performance. Wasn’t good enough last season. Time for him to bounce back. Come on Wednesday.

@scottcain13 Surprised at Dawson but he’s done well last two games so would have been a bit unfair to drop him, sure Wildsmith will get a chance in cup now. Penney, Rhodes and van Aken all got a point to prove come on Wednesday.

@simonwhittaker1 Wildsmith should be number one.

@nattasswfc Fair play. Penney fully deserves a place in the starting XI. Harris on the right might be a game changer for him. Doesn’t have to cut in all the time. Get early crosses in and create chances. Rhodes hat-trick.

@TomTB1995 Very interested to see how van Aken does today. I really really want it to work out for him. #swfc

@S35CB Borner not even in squad today. van Aken must have really impressed in training lately. I hope he is up for this.

@k3yowl Does this mean we're playing two strikers!! I guess we should start -12 every season.

@WawawOwls Happy with this, come on!!!! JVA this is your time to shine, pal.

@AndyRead666 Believe in you Jordan. I know you’ve still got it in there. Just need to get that first couple of goals and they’ll start flowing from there #WAWAW #UTO

@Jamesy_boy Don’t mind this lineup. #swfc. Interesting. Would prefer Palmer right side of defence and Iorfa in the middle. A lot of games to come and the squad will be used.

@adam7485 Like this, VA deserves a chance to impress and could Penney be the one to unlock Rhodes? Come on lads! #swfc

@Owlman2011 Proves Monk still doesn't know his strongest team. Come on Wednesday
