It has been the best part of a year so far since the Owls were charged with misconduct surrounding the sale of Hillsborough by chairman, Dejphon Chansiri, and while the club were found guilty of breaching the club’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules at the end of last month, no details were given at that stage.

Now, with the 2020/21 season less than a month away, the Star understands that the written reasons behind SWFC’s sanction are set to be made public later on this morning, with the club believed to have received them earlier in the month.

Having fought so hard against the charges – they were found not guilty of breaching their ‘duty of utmost good faith to the EFL by deliberately concealing information’ – the Owls are expected to appeal the 12-point deduction handed down by the independent disciplinary commission, but time is running out.

Wednesday have 14 days from when they received the written reasons to submit their appeal, and will no doubt have noted the recent report in The Sun that stated that ‘the EFL wanted to relegate Sheffield Wednesday’, also saying that the commission felt they ‘bungled their handling of the case’.

As things stand, Garry Monk’s side will start the 2020/21 season with -12 points at the foot of the Championship, but this case still appears to be far from over.
