After six straight defeats, and a long run of poor form on the road, the Owls struck late against Stoke City in a very tough afternoon at the bet365 stadium against Stoke City.
Anthony Musaba's finish at the death was enough to give them all three points after Cameron Dawson had come to the rescue with a second half penalty save, and now Danny Röhl's side are finally off the bottom of the Championship table.
Here's how we rated them on a slog of an afternoon in Stoke:
13. Michael Ihiekwe - 6
Took the place of Famewo as Wednesday moved to a back three. Had a horror moment and a piece of brilliance within the space of 10 seconds. A misskick set Stoke free, but his recovery tackle was brilliant. | UGC / Steve Ellis
14. Michael Smith - N/A
Came on for the last 10 minutes for Byers with Wednesday chasing a winner. Played a big part in getting it. | UGC / Getty Images
15. Djeidi Gassama - N/A
Another late sub, coming on for Windass, and got the assist for the winner. | UGC / Steve Ellis
