After the loss of player of the year Dominic Iorfa for the rest of the season to an achilles injury and long-term injuries to the likes of loanees Jack Marriott and Aden Flint, the issues keep coming in the form of a six-week knee problem for back-up goalkeeper Cameron Dawson.

The news leaves Wednesday stretched in the goalkeeping department, with Keiren Westwood yet to fully return from a groin injury. Asked whether Westwood would make the squad for this weekend’s visit of Coventry, Owls boss Tony Pulis said:

“With the situation we have at the minute with the goalkeepers, I’ll be pushing, but whether we can get him out on the pitch we’ll wait and see.

“He’s had a couple of days training and you’d really like to have him another week’s training.”

Pulis said after Tuesday’s defeat to Nottingham Forest that he would be without Massimo Luongo and Julian Börner for the Coventry clash and the Owls have been dealt a further blow with news that Joost van Aken will miss out having come off in the defeat at the City Ground.

“I don’t think Joost is going to be fit for Saturday, I don’t think Julian is going to be fit for Saturday, Massimo won’t be fit for Saturday,” he said.

“I’ve been in the game a long time and I’ve been in these situations but it’s difficult at the moment. The whole feeling of what is happening at the football club and what isn’t happening, on and off the field, it’s a difficult period.

“I don’t mind these difficult situations as long as I can see a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel that I can scrape and pull and punch to get to.

“That’s what we need to do, we need to give everybody that little glimmer we can cling onto.”

Coventry will be missing key midfield pair Liam Kelly and Gustavo Hamer at Hillsborough but arrive on the back of eight matches unbeaten under former Owls forward Mark Robins.
