The Owls sit rooted to the foot of the table, and are still trying to make up for the 12-point deduction they suffered at the beginning of the season.

The eight points they have actually taken so far this term would ordinarily be enough to put them in 18th position, but recent form has been poor, and Gary Monk’s men are currently on a run of three straight defeats.

For their part, Wycombe have struggled badly with the transition to Championship life.

The Chairboys put in a dismal run of seven consecutive losses before turning out an impressive display to snatch a point from Watford in midweek, and already they find themselves four points adrift of safety.

But Prutton believes that they showed enough promise against the Hornets to suggest that a first ever victory in the second tier is just around the corner, and has even suggested that they could pick it up this weekend.

Writing for Sky Sports, he said: “Wycombe got a great point against Watford in midweek and it could even have been more. It was, however, vital for them to finally get off the mark.

Sheffield Wednesday do find themselves in a tough position. They need to get to zero points as quickly as possible but it doesn't look like happening right now.

"It feels like a Wycombe win.”

Prutton has predicted a 2-1 defeat for Wednesday.

The Owls have not lost in their previous four league meetings against Wanderers, recording three wins and a draw.
