Wednesday are in the process of finalising their squad following the end of a disappointing 2020/21 campaign that saw them relegated into League One, and Darren Moore has been tasked with rebuilding a side capable of securing an immediate return.

The Owls are expected to be a much-changed side by the time they report back in a few weeks’ time, with several players out of contract at the end of next month and likely to move on ahead of the 2021/22 season.

At this point in time there has been no date confirmed other than ‘just over six weeks’ with regards to when preseason will actually get underway, but Moore says that they’re not far away from going public with the details of their preseason plans.

Speaking in an interview with the club, the Owls boss said, “When I look at it now, it’s just over six weeks until the boys are due back in for preseason. so we have to get a lot of things in place for when they do come back.

“Things have been finalised, and probably the next time I come to address the fans I can be more clear and concise in terms of where we’re going and the games.

“There are teams, the games are there, and we have a scheduled and structure for the preseason. I’ve just got to pen them in really.”

Last year, due to the limitations brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, Garry Monk took his side to Loughborough University for their preseason preparations, with only one official preseason game taking place – against recent FA Cup champions, Leicester City.

Wednesday and Moore will have much wider options this time around as things around the UK start to open up once again, though questions still remain about which players will actually be involved in the preseason.

The manager has said that things are ‘more or less’ done with regards to the club’s retained list, with confirmation of the current squad now expected over the next few days or so.
