Critical week as Sheffield Wednesday start to make contract decisions

Sheffield Wednesday have a lot of contractual decisions to make in the coming weeks as the season draws to a close, and it is thought that some of them are now starting to be made.

The Star reported recently that contract talks throughout the club had been put on a bit of a back-burner as they focused on the task at hand of trying to remain in the Championship, but the penultimate month of many deals is now upon them.

In the first team, the likes of Tom Lees Jordan Rhodes, Adam Reach, and Keiren Westwood are some of the big names who are currently out of contract at the end of next month, while the U23 age group players such as Alex Hunt, Liam Waldock and Ben Hughes are nearing the end of their various deals.

Heading down into the U18s, Wednesday need to make decisions on which of the scholars they are going to offer professional deals to as they become too old for that age group, with decisions set to be made on the likes of Alex Bonnington, Basile Zottos and several others.

The Star understands that some decisions are now starting to be made with regards to the U23s and U18s, and that this week could prove to be a big one for a number of players who will find out whether they have a future at Hillsborough or not.

With the first team, however, it is likely that decisions will only be made later this month once it’s been confirmed which division they’ll be in, with league status set to play a big role in the offers on the table.
