Goals from Marvin Johnson, Djeidi Gassama and Josh Windass secured a 3-1 victory at S6, with Scott Twine's goal from the spot proving to be nothing more than a consolation.
The huge three points meant a leap in league position in the second tier as Wednesday's survival hopes become more and more realistic, and there are now just three points that separate them from Huddersfield Town in 21st place.
As you may expect there are some high ratings in there this evening, and boy do they deserve them:
5. Marvin Johnson - 9
It's now five goals and assists for Johnson since his return from exile, grabbing one of each tonight in a fine performance. A foot like a traction engine for his opener. Made a brilliant tackle in the first half at 0-0, too. Must feel a real sense of vindication. | UGC / Steve Ellis
6. Liam Palmer - 8
Started as a defensive midfielder due to Wednesday's injury problems, and then moved out to right back. Did both jobs excellently in a really solid showing at Hillsborough. | UGC / Steve Ellis
7. Barry Bannan - 8
An excellent performance from the skipper in the heart of midfield, Bannan dictating so much of play and picking out passes that only he can. | UGC / Steve Ellis
8. Djeidi Gassama - 9
The youngster came flying out of the blocks at Hillsborough after a good showing at Preston and was a major handful for Hull. Took his goal briliantly before hitting a 'siu' in front of the Kop. A really bright performance and a constant thorn. | UGC / Steve Ellis
