Sheffield Wednesday have completed the signing of Barry Bannan from Crystal Palace on a free - their 15th acquisition of the summer.
The 25-year-old central midfielder thrashed out personal terms with the Owls on Monday after completing a medical last week and has joined on a one-year permanent switch.
Bannan was in the final year of his contract with Palace and has been told he is able to leave Selhurst Park before the transfer deadline, either on a loan or in a permanent deal.
Queens Park Rangers, Brighton and Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest were all said to be interested in Bannan, who has won 23 caps for Scotland.
The former Aston Villa failed to feature for Palace this season. He joined the Eagles from Villa two years ago but has made only 27 appearances and spent three months of last season on loan at Bolton Wanderers, where he made 15 starts.
Bannan made 82 senior appearances for Villa after coming through their Academy. He enjoyed loan spells with Derby County, Blackpool and Leeds United during his time at Villa Park.
Wednesday are continuing their hunt for at least one striker before Tuesday's 6pm transfer deadline. http://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/sheff-weds/sheff-weds-news/sheffield-wednesday-owls-step-up-hunt-for-big-money-striker-1-7435886
