Coach departs Sheffield Wednesday following appointment of Dave Challinor - roles change for others

Latest Owls news...

First-team coach Pete Shuttleworth has left Sheffield Wednesday, it has been announced.

Shuttleworth, who had previous experience at Birmingham City, Derby County, Plymouth Argyle and Wycombe Wanderers, joined The Owls in September 2025 as part of Henrik Pedersen’s backroom staff but departs with immediate effect following the sacking of Pedersen and the appointment of new manager Dave Challinor.

Challinor has brought his assistant coaches Clint Hill and Anthony Sweeney with him to Hillsborough. Matt Hamshaw and goalkeeping coach Daryl Flahavan will remain part of the first-team set-up. Andy Holdsworth will continue to focus on individual player development for those aged 18 and above, while Giles Coke returns to his role with the under-21s following his contribution to the first-team coaching staff.

Announcing Shuttleworth’s departure, the club said he made a ‘significant contribution during his time at Hillsborough, particularly throughout the challenging period of administration.’ A club statement read: “He has continued to play an important role this season, supporting the football department through a period of transition and helping establish the foundations for the club’s long-term development.”

Owls sporting director, Simon Wilson, added: “Pete has been an important part of the football operation during a period of considerable change at Sheffield Wednesday. His extensive knowledge of the game and recruitment network have been hugely valuable, while his ability to bring people together, encourage collaboration and support players with genuine care and professionalism has been greatly appreciated. His commitment has also extended beyond football, with Pete making a positive contribution to community causes and initiatives connected to the club. On behalf of everyone at Sheffield Wednesday, I would like to thank Pete for his dedication and commitment and wish him every success for the future.”

Challinor’s first game is on Sunday away at Oldham Athletic in the FA Cup first round.
