The 22-year-old played 18 games in total for St. Pauli in the 2. Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal, scoring one goal and grabbing one assist along the way as the club managed to maintain their place in the German second tier.
Now, after coming on as a second half substitute in their final game (a 5-3 away defeat to Wehen Wiesbaden), the Wednesday academy graduate will be turning his focus to all things S6.

“I look back on my time here with nothing but great memories! An experience I’ll never forget.. I wish the club all the best for the future and all I can say is THANKYOU! P.S The city is brown and white!”
Penney recently had his contract extended by a further year as he seeks a return to first team action at Hillsborough, and the fact that Morgan Fox is on his way out could bode well for him in terms of gametime next season given his abilities as a left back and experience playing in a more forward role that could suit the 3-5-2 formation that Garry Monk has adopted of late. Once Fox leaves, Penney will be – as things stand – the only natural left back in the entire squad.
Meanwhile, Joost van Aken’s loan with VfL Osnabrück will also come to an end this week as he enters into the last year of his deal with the Owls, though it remains to be seen whether he will be in the club’s plans for next season or not.
