The Blues have a substantial loan network having created one of the best youth academies in world football, and Brown is one of several of their graduates who is set to spend the 2020/21 season out on loan.

However, with his current deal at Stamford Bridge set to expire at the end of the upcoming campaign, he may well follow in the footsteps of Trevor Chalobah by penning a new contract ahead of any switch to Hillsborough.

Chalobah joined French side, Lorient, earlier this week, but not before the 21-year-old had secured a new four-year deal at Chelsea, making sure they don’t run the risk of losing him as a free agent when the 2020/21 campaign comes to a close.

Brown, who has spent time on loan with the likes of Vitesse, Huddersfield Town and most recently Luton Town, made his Premier League debut at just 16-years-old, and the England youth international remains tipped for big things despite a bit of bad luck with injuries.

With that in mind, it is unlikely that Frank Lampard’s side would want to lose the midfield man for free, so a new contract is likely to be on the table prior to a Wednesday move being finalised. He did the same when joining Brighton & Hove Albion in 2017.

If completed, Brown will become SWFC’s third new signing after Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Chey Dunkley.
