They’re a sense of identity for supporters who take their beloved – and sometimes battered and beer-stained – flags and banners to all corners of the globe as they follow their side religiously through thick and thin.
And how many times have you watched an England international and spent part of the game browsing through the plethora of flags draped from the stands looking to spot a Wednesday banner?
Even cricket grounds overseas – be it the MCG in Australia, Newlands at Cape Town in South Africa or the Kensington Oval in Barbados – are awash with football flags from England when Joe Root’s boys are in town.
And whenever there’s an England football or cricket match on TV, you’re more than likely to catch a glimpse of several Owls flags because, let’s be honest, Wednesdayites get everywhere.
