Wednesdayites were left pleasantly surprised by Monk's bold, attack-minded team selection. Few probably expected Monk to play Forestieri, Da Cruz, Windass and Wickham from the start at Oakwell. It was a big statement of intent.
Monk fielded Da Cruz on the right and Forestieri on the left in a 4-2-3-1 system, with Windass supporting Wickham.
It looked good on paper but there was a lack of cohesion at times in the final third.
Josh Windass
The forward could not have asked for a better start to his Wednesday career. Windass, drafted in on a deadline day from Wigan Athletic, drilled home at Brad Collins' near post to put the Owls ahead in the 16th minute.

Hide AdWindass, the son of Hull City legend Dean, showed his versatility after the break by moving to the left wing following the introduction of Atdhe Nuhiu. There is definitely more to come from Windass.
Cameron Dawson
Monk refused to blame Dawson after his costly 24th minute error.
"He made a mistake and it got them their equaliser but that is the life of a goalkeeper," said Monk. "He knows that as well as me. I don't have to tell players when they make mistakes like that.
"He will bounce back from that. I know he will."
Monk insists he will not drop Dawson, despite the goalkeeper making two big blunders in his last four starts. With Joe Wildsmith and Keiren Westwood waiting in the wings, Dawson's form urgently needs to cut out the mistakes.
An alarming slump

Almost 5,000 fans travelled to Barnsley and there were some boos at the final whistle after another below-par performance.
It has become abundantly clear since Christmas that this Owls side needs major surgery in the summer.
