'Bullied out of the game' - Sheffield Wednesday fans' verdict on defeat at Bristol City

Sheffield Wednesday were unable to capitalise on a dominant first half showing as they slipped to a 2-0 reverse against Bristol City in the Sky Bet Championship at Ashton Gate this afternoon.

It’s the first time Garry Monk’s side have tasted defeat in the league this season after second half goals from Tommy Rowe and Jamie Paterson punished the Owls for failing to put away their chances in the opening 45 minutes.

The defeat means Wednesday return to South Yorkshire still on minus eight points, although three teams above them – newly-promoted Wycombe Wanderers, Derby County and Nottingham Forest – have all yet to register their first points of the season.

On Twitter, our Owls correspondent, Joe Crann, wrote: “Disappointing, that… But just goes to show what happens when you don’t take your chances.

#SWFC were in complete control in the first half, but Bristol were substantially better in the second. Disappointing, but not the end of the world.”

Here’s what a selection of Owls fans, also on Twitter, have had to say about Wednesday’s defeat in the West Country.

@ChrisBramms First half decent, but lacked a cutting edge. Second half, well less said about that the better. Bullied out of the game. Bit concerning. #swfc

@_ae19_ Pressing full on for 45 minutes and dying in second half to completely undo any work we did, and not having anyone who can bury a chance is costing us. Kachunga is fab at pressing but never a goal scorer. We need two strikers. Desperately. We go in 2-0 at HT, that second half is ours.

@LCHodkin Long season, time to get behind the lads and push on. So many negative comments already, so counterproductive. #swfc

@Richruns789 We’re going to have to take the rough with the smooth. Great first half but hopefully lessons learned from that second half performance. We have had a positive mindset so far. There’s a long way to this season, let’s move on to the next game and put some points on the board #swfc

@SimoNo5 In other news we've made up four points on the teams above us in three games. And are only nine points from being safe! Onwards to the next game #UTO #SWFC

@owls_4life Next few weeks are crucial for #swfc. We need to bring goals to the team, we have some decent players but there simply isn't enough goals in our team atm.

@clurrrrxhx Not what we wanted but you can’t win every game. Impressive first half, appalling second half. If you don’t take your chances you get punished... though showing some work rate is all I ask and we did that. Luongo was class. We keep our heads up and kick on next week.

@RocketOwl1986 Not going to go into meltdown. Still thought four points from those opening three games was about where I thought we would be at

@hazowl27 How was Penney not in that squad? Decent first half, shocking second, Penney offers far more than Harris or Palmer, he at least gets balls in the box #swfc
