Neil Thompson determined to move on after frustrating Sheffield Wednesday transfer window

They tried to get new players in, but Sheffield Wednesday’s transfer deadline didn’t quite go to plan – thankfully those that are already at the club came to the party against Bournemouth.

'Outstanding tonight' - jubilant Sheffield Wednesday fans celebrate victory over Bournemouth

A late Jordan Rhodes winner secured a superb 2-1 victory on the road for Sheffield Wednesday against AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium tonight.

It’s tough for everybody and it’s frustrating but it happens. I’ve quickly put it to bed. I think one or two went close but it didn’t happen for whatever reason.

As I say, it’s tough. It’s not easy getting players out at this time of year.

On Chey Dunkley’s yellow card

Yes, I’ve not really had a look at it.  At the end of the day, we might have got away with one. I’ve not seen it. It happens.

NT on relegation battle

There’s a lot of games to go and we’ve got to look and try and catch the teams above us and put a bit of pressure on them.

It was a bad performance at Coventry and it was a nip and tuck game. We didn’t perform well for whatever reason but what we got a reaction and got great wins against Preston and Bournemouth.

The position we’re in we’ve got to win football matches. You’ve got to create your own momentum and ride with it.

You’re going to get bumps in the road but you’ve got to go with that.

NT on the comings weeks

From now until the end of the season it’s going to be like that. They’re all tough games.

Thompson on injuries and transfers

Sometimes when we got a result people get a spring in the step.

It’s challenging but I think everybody is up for the challenge. There’s one or two sore bodies out there but you’ve got to keep going.

It’s good to have player back  like Chey and Massimo. I thought Kads did well tonight. They’re all experienced players and you’re going to need them.

We’ve got players coming back. It’s not easy getting players to come in at this time of year. It’s tough, but we have to get on with it.

I think we just edged it. They put us under pressure in the second half but I  think at half-time we could have been out of sight with the chances we created. They had a bit of possession but I thought we did really well.

It will be a totally different game but we know what’s coming. You’ve got to be ready for it. It’s going to be tough and sometimes it doesn’t matter if you’ve won the last game or you’ve lost it, it doesn’t matter. It’s a new game and it’s a chance, like all games, for the players to impress again. You’ve got to go full tilt at.
