The result left the Owls six points shy of safety towards the foot of the Championship table and has led to caretaker manager Neil Thompson making three changes for today’s game with the Lilywhites.

In comes young defender Osaze Urhoghide for a rare start as well as Elias Kachunga and Callum Paterson who have been selected ahead of Julian Borner, Andre Green and Josh Windass – all of whom drop to the bench alongside the returning Jordan Rhodes.

Here’s how Wednesdayites have reacted on Twitter to the team selected by Thompson for the must-win game at S6.

@yana1867 Boring. Turgid. Defensive. Devoid of attacking intent. That’s the #swfc team today. You watch, we’ll win 3-0.

@SWFCSouthy Picture this - another tough few days as an Owls fan and we are all on the floor writhing in agony. Then comes today’s team news. It’s akin so someone putting the boot in whilst still on the floor.

@RichLido Just seen the #swfc lineup. Time to go out and ignore football for the afternoon.

@harryrushforth_ Why does every manager we have rate Pelupessy so much?? Really don’t get it.

@adamtmilner What an abysmal team that is. We will get beat to nil today. Kachunga wouldn’t get in our Sunday League side. Pelupessy again. Get this season over with.

@MrPaulPashley Joey over Brown, Luongo... I’m seriously confused! Not having a go... Just VERY confused.

@IanSWFC80 Makes me feel quite sad, that line up.

@jasonelsdon Awful... Luongo, Harris and Green should all be starting today!! Get a coach in quickly before it’s too late.

@dan_N_smith We need goals and there’s more attack on the bench than starting.
