Owls boss Garry Monk is taking on a club he revealed he was sacked by text from in the summer and it appears he’s not much of a fan of Pep Clotet either.

The Spaniard worked closely with Monk at Swansea and Leeds before reuniting at Birmingham where Clotet remains having taken over in June.

There’s no love lost between the two, however and Monk wasn't shy in expressing that at Tuesday’s pre-match press conference.

“Unfortunately for me, I didn’t listen to a lot of people in football circles who warned me about the type of character he is,” said the Owls boss.

“But, yeah, that’s an error in judgement from myself. It’s a mistake that I won’t be making again in the future.”

He had begun his answer to a question regarding Clotet with a dismissive: “I don’t know what it is… is it interim, caretaker, head coach? I’m not sure what his title is but I don’t speak, I don’t speak with him.”

Having picked that up from social media, Birmingham City got involved.

“We tried to find comments from our 'Interim Caretaker Head Coach' speaking without class about tomorrow's game. We couldn't," they posted.

“In the meantime, it's always nice to hear something from the opposition manager.

“Garry, you want to come?!”

That last line might appear a bit odd but apparently it's a bit of an in-joke.

In September, Blues official Edward Cheung replied to a fan who had quote-tweet a video of Dutch supporters chucking their club's owner out of the ground.

The City fan posted: “We need to be storming (directors) @XuandongRen and @Birmingnese into the kop car park Friday night.”

The reply from Edward Cheung (Birmingnese) was: “You want come? I will be there waiting for you.”

Presumably he meant, ‘you want some?’ and so a meme was born.
