Forest Green Rovers have launched an effort to take Cheltenham Town director of football Micky Moore days ahead of the Robins’ visit to Hillsborough on Saturday.

A former coach at Mansfield, Grimsby Town and Barrow among others Moore is highly rated and has been a major part of the club’s success in recent years, having formed a prolific bond with former manager Michael Duff, now at Barnsley.

Moore is a central figure at the Johnny Rocks Stadium and the approach comes as a knock-on effect of Portsmouth taking Forest Green’s sporting director Rich Hughes last week.

Cheltenham chairman David Bloxham told Gloucestershire Live on Moore: “Forest Green approached us on Tuesday for permission to speak and Micky is interested to have a conversation.

“He is happy at Cheltenham Town and we are keen for him to stay.”

It comes amid a headache for Cheltenham boss Wade Elliott after one-time Wednesday-linked forward Alfie May was ruled out of the weekend’s clash with an ankle issue.

The Robins are 14th in the table and are in decent form having turned over Bolton Wanderers and Shrewsbury Town in their last two League One outings.

Wednesday are hoping to bounce back from the heartbreak of an injury time defeat at league leaders Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday evening.

Darren Moore could welcome back George Byers and Mark McGuinness to contention to make the Owls squad after spells out.
