sheffield Wednesday will hope that Wolves’ Premier League survival could herald the return to Hillsborough of Danny Batth.
The 20-year-old central defender made a good impression during a 10-game loan spell with Wednesday at the end of the season. Owls boss Gary Megson marked down Batth as one for the future.
Now, with less likelihood of the youngster earning regular involvement in the top flight with Wolves than if they had dropped to the Championship, he will be a player Megson may well be keen to pursue for next season and try to bring back. Batth shared centre-defence duties with Rob Jones who was on loan from Scunthorpe.
Scunthorpe are not renewing his contract and he could well return to Hillsborough with Megson having made inquiries. He is also understood to have inquired about another central defender who has Championship experience.
Megson continues to step up his bid to recruit for next season and two other players he has been linked with are Wigan midfielder Jason Koumas, who was on loan at Cardiff, and Nottingham Forest striker Nathan Tyson. Both are players who have worked under Megson previously.
